Influenced by his uncle, Joãozinho Morgado—widely known as "Rei Dos Batuques" (King of the Drums)—Tello has developed a rich and dynamic career blending traditional and contemporary rhythms.

Since arriving in London in the early '90s, he has played a key role in the UK’s New Jazz movement, collaborating with renowned artists such as Kaidi Tatham, Shabaka Hutchings, Robert Mitchell, and Giles Peterson. His versatility has also led him to perform with global icons like Jocelyn Brown, Groove Armada, and Zara McFarlane, as well as at major festivals including Glastonbury, North Sea Jazz, and Womad.

Tello has also worked alongside legendary Angolan musician Mário Rui Silva for five consecutive years, further deepening his expertise in Lusophone and Afro-jazz traditions.

Beyond performances, Tello has pursued academic excellence with a Master’s degree in Music from SOAS University of London. He has studied Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban percussion, enriching his unique sound. His expertise has been sought for prestigious private events, including performances for Mariah Carey, Timbaland, and the British Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.

As the founder of Batuke Royale, Tello continues to bridge traditional Lusophone music with the global stage. His work remains dedicated to celebrating Angolan rhythms and pushing musical boundaries worldwide.
