SAMUEL WANGO

Samuel Wango, born in the vibrant province of Huambo, Angola, is a multi-talented musician whose artistry has spanned continents and genres. Raised in an environment rich with faith and music, Samuel's early exposure to his father’s role as a pastor in an evangelical church set the foundation for his musical journey. It was within the church that Samuel began to hone his craft, playing the piano, arranging music, and teaching singing, all while developing a deep passion for melody and harmony.

In 1980, Samuel relocated to Luanda, Angola’s bustling capital, where he immersed himself in the city's diverse music scene. His skill and creativity quickly earned him recognition, and he joined numerous musical groups, collaborating with local artists and expanding his musical horizons. This period marked the beginning of a distinguished career that would see Samuel working alongside some of Africa's most celebrated musicians.

In 1987, Samuel made a significant move to Lisbon, Portugal, where he began to work professionally as a pianist, producer, and chorister. During this time, he had the privilege of collaborating with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Filipe Mukenga, Valdemar Bastos, Tabanka Jazz, and many others. His work bridged the sounds of Africa with contemporary music, helping to shape a unique and versatile musical identity.

In 1999, Samuel relocated to the United Kingdom, where he founded Massemband, a groundbreaking project that celebrates the rich musical heritage of Angola while bridging it with global influences. His tireless commitment to his craft and his ability to blend traditional and modern sounds have made him an influential figure in the international music scene. Samuel’s work continues to inspire, touching hearts and minds around the world.

Today, Samuel Wango remains a visionary in the music world, not just as a pianist, producer, and arranger, but as a true artist who transcends cultural boundaries and elevates music to its highest form.
